- THE KHIMIA DESIGNS STORY -

I created this brand with the mission to connect culture and fashion. Khimia Designs is committed to empowering women and men to feel confident in their own skin through our unique statement collections. I grew up in a community whereby being of Gabonese & Congolese heritage, there were few people who looked like me. I often found myself attempting to reconnect to my culture. As I got older, I learned to embrace cultural identity through fashion, realizing the little things make a big difference.

I began my art (jewelry making) journey with earrings using African print fabric called kitenge. The colours and patterns on the kitenge fabric reflect a big part of my identity and heritage. One day I decided to step out of the typical corporate environment dress code by wearing a colourful headwrap and kitenge earrings. Based on the reactions I received this kept me going, never limiting myself on the endless possibilities of change. My intersections as a Black woman and small business owner continuously reminds me of the significance for representation within our communities.

What sets Khimia Designs apart? Our brand is a symbolism of unapologetically being you, fashion is an expression of who you are, your personality. What we wear tells a story. From a pair of earrings to the colour of the shoes we choose to wear. Khimia Designs is a Black-owned small business founded in 2018.  A Canadian-based brand, showcasing unique, affordable collections made of bold and vibrant materials to accentuate all your qualities. Khimia Design reflects a combination of inclusivity and solidarity. The word ‘khimia’ means peace in my language. Our jewelry and collections speak to the importance of unity and diversity. Anyone can wear our pieces and embrace their individuality.
